2022 Masters Moving Day

Moving Day at The Masters

Moving Day was far from its usual, spring time feel, instead Augusta descended into a winter zone filled with puffers and beanies, making scoring very tough. Sunday is forecast to be the same.

But the course still gave you a chance to vault up the leaderboard with determined play. Only 9 players broke par and only 1 of them shot in the 60s, which just shows how good Cambo got it going and brought the lead down to just 3 headed into Sunday.

Scottie was powerful on the front 9 and played care-free to get to 11 under, then had a wobble down the back 9, but still posted a 3rd score under par to lead by 3.

Regardless of what appears to be a wobble, a 3 shot advantage is massive headed into Sunday and there are definitely permutations for another winner, they all need Scottie to shoot over par.

Masters22Day3 Scottie

Its Scottie’s first time in the final group of a major so that pressure will be something new, despite him having 4 top 10s in majors, 3 of those coming last year.

But the hunt for a Green Jacket will go on for the chasing pack, headed by Cambo was back to his best with a sensational 68, again leaning on his precision wedges and putting, almost reminiscent of Immelman and Zach J’s wins in the late 2000s.

Masters22Day3 Cambo

2 further shots back is Sungjae who roared back into contention with 32 on the back 9, to give himself another crack at his first major. Sungjae and Cambo had finished T2 in 2020 and so will be no strangers to Sunday pressure, which could be useful in the context.

Masters22Day3 Sungjae

There are some brilliant potentials heading into the Final Day, with the leaders all seeking their first major:
Scottie: world no 1 and would be his 4th win in 6 starts!
Cambo: 2nd Aussie to win at Augusta, rounding off a sensational start to 2022, after wins in Hawaai and at the Players!
Sungjae: the likable and hard-working player who literally just plays golf and travels! (plus the constant military service discussion)

Round of the Day
On a very harsh day for scoring, Cambo was unstoppable on Moving Day with his 68 2 shots better than anyone else.

There were moments when the others stood up, but always faltered and gave shots back. The morning field, field by the thrill of the chase, and the lack of wind delivered a stack of birdies and ultimately the round of the day as Major pressure enveloped the leaders late on.

Shot of the Day

Moving Day is all about shot making and the world’s best duly delivered. From long bombs, to monster putts, but some of the chipping was sensational.

Charl ripped in this beauty but then finished poorly to shoot 73.

Performance of the Day
It was both thrilling and mindblowing to see The Big Cat walk the course on the weekend. His body is looking very worse for wear after 2 hard days and yet he still tied with Rahmbo on +7 and ahead of Cantlay.

The Leaders
Lots to play for on Sunday, with the lead only 3, though difficult to see anyone but Scottie, Cambo or Sungjae.

The leaderboard bounced around on Moving Day and its anyone’s to win as head into Sunday!

Bradthig7 continued to strengthen with his zero MCs and enjoys a 1 shot lead 3 chasers.

Back 9 Press, Fitzmagic and Ginjas Ninjas have moved into a threatening position.

Ginjas Ninjas went with no subs and thus had the benefit of no penalty but is risky into the Final Day.

Only 2 shots back are Burry Can Do it and MJ + Crew so expect a ding dong battle for the win!
