Friday at the PGA Champs
A game of 2 halves yesterday at Southern Hills for the PGA Champs with the wind ripping through the course for most of the day - but then, suddenly, it turned into a breathless, humid affair and the youngsters plundered, making off with all the bounty.
JT will have had a rueful smile - after his herculean efforts in the morning wave to carve out an outstanding 67.
He was matched by BK, but who seems out of contention at this point. The morning got really messy for many others though with the world # 1 packing his bags early after a miserable 75!
Mito moved into contention early on and then when the wind dropped put the pedal down and went for it. His game looks in fine fettle and the major pressure will be a factor, but he ain’t no rookie and has dealt with challenges throughout his career.
Zala matched Mito all the way through the afternoon, peeling off a run of birdies on the back 9 when the wind had died. His tee to green game is always super strong and his putter dealt with the list of 8 footers through the afternoon very well.
There are 36 holes to go and its all to play for. Players are in form, the stress of the cut is gone and now its time to play!
Round of the Day
The lowest round belonged to Mito, the best round probably to JT, most influential to Zala and most significant to Tiger. It was that kind of day.
All 4 produced moments of magic and all 4 head into Moving Day full of confidence.
Zala was able to calm his putting nerves and carry on from Thursday to take the 36 hole lead.
Chasing hard was Mito who looked calm and composed in posting the low round of the tournament.
The man in form is definitely JT who has all the shots, he just needs to find them consistently.
Tiger produced some magic as he battled pain all day and most of us would be looking to rest Saturday and Sunday, not Tiger, he is looking for a win.
Shot of the Day
There were many great shots and better results than this one, but you just have to love how the artist and his partner were able to dissect this beauty.
Performance of the Day
Tiger stood head and shoulders above all. Rory and Jordan just stared on in awe. Chasing major cuts was not his goal, but he won’t leave many records out there not to chase.
The Leaders
The Chasers
The Movers
It's Moving Day up ahead and with the wind abound - there will be a chance for players to post a number and hope the field comes back to them. The field is unlikely to run away.
There are a few sneaky slots like early starters Lowry and BK - who have pedigree and decent form. Rahmbo too came firing back into the mix and will be a good shout. What about Tickie Howler who has been dormant for too long or not long enough?
Taking the weekend off
A long list of players - often on the wrong side of the draw - make up the MCs this week: Scottie, Wolff, Berger, Scotty and Cantplay were the more fancied players taking the weekend off.
The big loser was the world # 1, superb form, looking good on day 1, loves Southern Hills, it goes on and on… and just like that, a 75 and an MC.
The Cutline fell at +4 with a long list on the number: Collin, Webb, King Louis and Hideki.
Reminder of the Stats:
Top Bucket: Scottie 19%, Jordan 17%, Rory 14% & Rahmbo 13%. (1 is under par)
2nd Bucket: Hideki & DJ both 15%, Lowry 13% & Joaquin 10%. (1 is under par)
3rd Bucket: Tommy 13%, Keegs 12%, Tiger 10% & Bez 8%. (NONE are under par)

HAYBS came from nowhere with JT and Zala to sneak into a 1 shot lead.
Both Tee Time and Southern Hillbillys are still there and its going to be a great tussle into the weekend, with the difference man being Rory and his not traditional weekend charge.
Sitting tightly behind the main trio are Happy Gilmore and that perennial leaderboard hunter Creamy Goodness.
The weekend is upon us so strap in leaders. The chase is on.

The bottomboard is littered with train wrecks, but its early days as they say.
Salix Slayers went back-to-back and set dead last after 2 tough days at the PGA Champs.
It’s a tight race at the bottom though with 1 shot above sits Lara and Disaster which makes sense. GoochJohnsonArnaus had signs of being too risky and so it told.
It’s a long road to go and no one is safe on this course and with major champions in your team, we know they can flip the switch and turn it around.
36 holes to go, lots to play for.
