2022 PGA Champs Moving Day

Moving Day at The PGA Champs

Just when the heat was becoming too much, so Southern Hills descended into freezing cold and gusting winds, making scoring very difficult. There was still a score to be had, but they were few and far between. Only 12 rounds in the 60s on Moving Day, but 1 of those from Mito.

PGA22Day3 Mito

Mito was shaken, stirred and then he rolled right into it. A closing stretch of birdies and pars pushed him into a 3 shot lead headed into the Final Day.

Mito was cruising most of the day, hitting his usual mix of fairways and greens and whilst others faltered, he built a handy 4 shot lead at 1 point when he got to 10 under.

The chasing pack sits 3 shots back, with both Fitzy and Zala enjoying a good closing stretch to try take some momentum into the Final Day. Fitzy especially battled hard all day and was rewarded with a superb birdie on the last.

The big story of the day was the lack of bite from the expected chasers. Rory had a miserable day with a slew of 6s and 7s (coupled with the odd birdie 2) and will be furious to be 9 back after a 74. Matching his 74, JT too could not get it going and had to watch himself slide backwards!

Instead the chargers were the lesser known quantities of Cam Young and Abe Ancer. An eagle 2 on 17 ain’t too shabby and Cam has been plenty of story behind him, with his father being the head pro of Shallow Creek.

Sadly the cold and wind hurt Tiger too. He battled to a 79 and ultimately has withdrawn. His knee just could not do another day of this battle and the former # 1 made the right call to sit the Final Round out. This will cause some chaos on many majorpunter teams though. His spot in various teams will be changed, but his scores for rounds 1 to 3 will be carried through.

PGA22Day3 Tiger

Round of the Day
Making the cut on the number, Webb, walked into Saturday with little hope of a victory, but a charging 65 has put him into the mix for a top 10 from nowhere and the victory seems a long way off, it was still a superb round in very tough conditions.

Shot of the Day
Despite the chaos that followed him through Rory produced a piece of magic on the tough 14 for a near ace and a resultant kick-in birdie.

But there was more mess than best. The morning starters really struggled, but had some glimpses of hope.

Performance of the Day
The topsy turvy day also the majorpunter leaderboard all over the place and certainly not what anyone expected, but such is the nature of a major and there will be many more twists and turns ahead.

PigsInABlanket suddenly sprang to life off Webb’s surge and sits atop with significant breathing room. A look at the team does not inspire confidence though so its still an interesting game into Sunday.
3 shots back are Karols Kangaroos, who enjoyed an under par day, led by Cam Young’s eagle.
HAYBS and Southern Hillbillys had absolute shockers, sinking led by Zala, but they are still relatively in it as they have been all week. 5 shots back, 1 day to go, it’s a position they would have accepted on Thursday morning.
The Chasers will need minor miracles but these do happen in majors so don’t stop believing. Will we have a new winner come Sunday’s end?

The bottomboard has been gathering pace with more and more big numbers being added at regular intervals.
There has been much change though with Salix Slayers lifting themselves out the bottom and significantly so.
Disaster has now nailed the bottom to themselves and are last by 6 shots, followed by PokeyAU2. It’s a dead shootoff between these for the wooden spoon. Things can only get worse for them.
