Posted on May 14, 2024 alt_text

Valhalla is a traditional venue for The PGA Champs and brings with it the usual immaculate setting and incredible atmosphere. The crowds will be flocking in and expecting the usual major atmosphere which will peak come Sunday.

Keep an eye open for the majorpunter changes introduced last year, with a no-subs option, adding a 6th pick and the addition of another wildcard. See the updated RULES on the site, which also include a no-sympathy approach to players withdrawing once the first tee shot has gone off.

The course is looking in superb condition with no stone left unturned to prepare it. Fans and players will be equally pleased, especially getting an early glimpse of The Big Cat.

BK was out and about prepping on the range with his considerations for the Champion’s Dinner firmly part of his thinking.

majorpunter Favorites
Any major presents so many potentials, obviously littered with favourites of proven top end players, but we all know there is a surprise out there just like Harmie & Windie last year.

The course is expected to be soft to start and then firm up as the week goes, probably a little more soft than organisers would have hoped. This will also add a premium to driving accuracy as the rough will be thicker and nastier and so up steps The Bulk who will prefer that, like some others.

PGA24 PP4

History does tend to repeat itself. From 2014, there will be some course experience, including the 2014 & 2021 champions (Rory & Lefty) who finished 1 and 2 last time out at Valhalla. Tickie Howler finished 3rd that year too.

The DATA GOLF RANKINGS have a top 10 that is drifting apart with a heavy top 3 and then the rest.

The top 10 are a mix of major veterans and then some charging youth: Scottie, Rory, Rahmbo & Collin are all multiple major winners with plenty of pedigree and form to boot, while Cant(p)lay, X, Aberg, Jaco, Hatton & Henley are ALL seeking their first major win.

Don’t forget Jordan is on the Grand Slam trail, though he might be impressed to just compete on a Sunday again.

PGA24 PP6

However, abilities are very tight in pro golf and there are probably 100 possible winners, who each can put together 4 superb rounds and so anyone could conceivably win and they will all be lining up feeling great about their games, with a mix of form and freshness. 2023 presented some strong finishers from notables and others alike, with the top 5 a real mix: The Hov, Scottie, AnotherCamDavis, The Bulk and Kitayama, though only The Hov was a real contender on Sunday. Who can come out the pack at Valhalla?

But what of the sleeper picks?

With the course expected to be long and intimidating, with a premium on long irons, what about Other Cam who is right up there in SG Ball Striking in the majors since 2022 (top 5).

Your Picks
Dig hard into DATA GOLF RANKINGS to seek value. There has been some impressive form without winning, so there are probably some players considered due for a big win.

PGA24 PP8

Keep an eye open for majorpunter changes, with us trialing a no-subs option, adding a 6th pick and the addition of another wildcard. See the updated RULES on the site, which also include a no-sympathy approach to players withdrawing once the first tee shot has gone off.

The Top bucket: Hard to see anything past the Big 3 though Rahmbo is not close to the other 2. There definitely is talent amongst players like X & Jaco but hard to see anyone getting beyond the Big 3, especially if its long and wet.

PGA24 PP9

The 2nd bucket: Where things start to heat up with so many options to challenge. A few major winners in the mix Hideki, Windie, JT & The Bulk - but a few chasing their 1st major too like Tommy & Max, who both competed at Augusta.

The 3rd Bucket: We have a few major winners of recent times like Fitzy, JDay & Cambo who also have good form. This is also the bucket where the unlikely winner comes from like the ball striking machines Burmester, Other Cam & Conners. As we know, this is where the big gambles come, the dice are rolled. Perhaps it is time for the Grand Slam for Jordan?

PGA24 PP10

The Bottom Bucket: The long shots, presents many options, like Zala who will contend if he can stay fit. The smart money will be drifting on BK, the defending champ with a zip in his step.
