2025 Masters: Its Prep time, It’s April and it’s the Masters

Posted on April 7, 2025 alt_text

The 2025 major season is upon us, kicking off with our usual opening gambit at Augusta for The Masters, and the sense of excitement for the year’s first major is palatable. The defending champion is the world no 1, with the field fairly spread between the various international tours including some interesting invitations to global superstars.

No time for a long preview mail? Just head over to get your PICKS in!

Augusta will be roaring, just like last year when Scottie romped to his 2nd Green Jacket in 3 years and who would bet against him defending, with a perfectly timed roll into form in Houston recently, not too much noise, not too much chaos, but enough class to be the favourite again, with Rory champing at the bit, chasing the Grand Slam.

Weather FORECASTS are a mixed bag, with rain, clouds, sun and some humidity forecast all week.

Reminder of the majorpunter rules, with a no-subs option, but having 6 picks including 2 wildcards. See the RULES on the site, which also include a no-sympathy approach to players withdrawing once the first tee shot has gone off.

The Headliners
The list of potential winners this year seems lengthy with decent form on various tours, which is refreshing.
Scottie, Rory & X remain the 3 to beat. Will Rory just disappoint again? Which player from LIV will make the most noise? The Bulk has changed and will be seeking a defining 3rd major!

Masters25 Pic4

There is a band of youngsters chasing a 1st major or a 2nd is an exciting list. So much talent in the mix!
Cambo, The Hov, Wyndie, aberg!, Fitzy, TKim, MinWoo & Jaco - just awesome options to pick from. Would be great to see them make the step up at Augusta!

Obviously a few others amongst the chasers who are well known, but have struggled to break through in the big majors. Tough to keep backing the likes of Cant(p)lay & Henley.

We can't rule out the "veterans" like Shane, Collin or JT on current form.

The Defending Champ
Scottie remains the no 1 player in the world and is a red hot favourite to land another green jacket. He arrives at Augusta with a sense of form, but mainly a huge sense of belief in his own abilities.

Champions Dinner Plans
This year’s Champions Dinner is sure to be a classic and spicy American affair with Scottie spreading the Texas feeling into an exciting, if cheap-ish, menu, with the champion collecting the bill and a growing attendee list, he could not splurge, considering his lack of wins in 2025!

Masters25 Pic6

More importantly, can Scottie come back and defend the Jacket? So many have tried and very few have succeeded at defending. Defending champions have a poor record with only two of the last 10 winners making the top 10 the following year!

The Field
As usual the FIELD is filled with a variety of contenders and no-hopers.

The Masters
The kings of content, The Masters have again outdone themselves with their latest PROMO, with so much on MASTERS website.

The Course and Surrounds
The players, the Patrons and ourselves, all know Augusta and its humps, hollows, speedy greens and sloping fairways very well. However, its traditions are also extended and vast, with no stone unturned or even new stones added in.

Otherwise, as we know, the course and surrounds will be perfect - a mix of green, pink and white will be in abundance!

Masters25 Pic9

From the umbrellas to food wrapping, the shops, caddies overalls and obviously the various buildings scattered around the course.

Masters25 Pic8

Famous establishments like Butler Cabin, Crow’s Nest, The Wine Cellar, Champions Locker Room, Founders Circle, Berckmans Place, Clubhouse Terrace and Eisenhower Cabin are places most of us just dream about. These buildings that surround the course have stayed much the same over years, adding to the old world charm of Augusta.

Enjoy the TOUR of Augusta National.

Potential Favourites:
Scottie: The world # 1, super confident, after a dream 2024, will be determined to get a 3rd Green Jacket.
Rory: Another stab at the Grand Slam, after so many near misses in 2024. He has started 2025 like a firecracker.
Jon Rahm: A former champ, decent form, without being red-hot. He still seems disjointed since his LIV switch. Can he change that angle and get back to a big win?

The Others:
The list of possible first timers is long and impossible to ignore these guys.
ABerg: Such a run last year, always looked right at home.
The Hov: Coming off a win but not having his A game is a good combo.
Tommy Lad: A real veteran who is running our chances despite being thereabouts many times.
