Day 2 at the 2020 Masters

Posted on November 14, 2020 alt_text

Friday at The Masters In terms of a full day, the players really had to get it going today with some heaving it around for 27 holes. With the 2nd round still not completed, it will be much the same for half the field on Moving Day. On the Leaderboard, it’s a charge for double digits. DJ had slipped in there early on Friday, only to slip back momentarily before posting 9 under. He was joined there by 3 others by day’s end (Ancer, Cam and JT). For the rest of the chasing pack, its rammed. Day 2 Leaderboard Of the chasing pack, Rahmbo (and King Louis) seem best suited to match and then better DJ. The world #’s 1 and 2 have looked imperious so far, it could become an interesting shootout. Rahmbo’s other playing partner, The Bulk, who was expected to also be on the charge with his projected par of 67, was instead on the search for golf balls. When Rahmbo was asked after the round if he helped The Bulk search for his lost ball, he simply responded with “which one”. This was the tale of misery for The Bulk who sits below the cut-line (but staring an eagle down on 13 when he returns after having 124 into 13 for his second!). The Leaders The leading pack contains 2 rookies, although they looked nothing like it. Ancer posted 6 birdies in his effortless 67, whilst Cam rolled in some eagles in his topsy turvy 68. It was brilliant to watch. Fearless aggression, this will change come Moving Day with the reality that they are in the thick of it. Masters content continues to inspire - just trawl through their social media and get a very sharp update for movers and shakers. Especially with the dreaded cut-line appearing for our collective picks of Molinari, Erik (WD'ing from Augusta might leave him in hot water), much fancied Hatton and Wolff. The Movers This is a packed Leaderboard of power, finesse, regulars and rookies. Something for everyone to hold onto with an “I told you so”. What is surprising at this point is the lack of Masters champions high up - best placed being crowd favourite Danny Willet who is 2 shots back (with Fatty Feed also sneaking up). There are the perennial challengers though - seeking their own green jacket. JT, Hideki, Rosie and King Louis all sit within 2 overnight - and some with work to do to claw further up. Day 2 Leaderboard at Sunset Sangjae Im posted 8 under which included a string of missed putts - with his ball striking he could have easily gone much lower. Otherwise pick your names from the hunting pack to get into position. Louis and Rahmbo, Fatty Fee, Pan, Casey, Tiger - all still have holes to play to get into the mix. It’s all out there come Moving Day (bar the patron roars) with more than 20 players within 5 of the lead including the defending champ. Its tough to say who to back for Saturday - Rors might be a pick coming off a 66 and a full nights rest and only 18 holes to deal with, whereas Tiger will be tested with 26 holes. Like Rory, the same can be said for Fleetwood, who rose to within 2, otherwise BK who has been chilling in his scores of 70 and 69. The cut-line is going to be an interesting discussion when play resumes at 730am Local time, but not for the ever-green Bernhard Langer who became the oldest player to make the cut at Augusta. But the craziest stat you will see for a long time, Langer has competed in a major against Gene Sarazan (born 1902) and Abel Gallegos (born 2002). Sarazan played his last major at the '76 Open Championship, Langer's 1st major. Langer evergreen Who do you fancy for your SUB PICKS? Keep an eye out for the subs gap - with the 3rd round scheduled to start at 1030am Local time. The top 50 players (and ties) will make the cut and the early starters will be hopeful of a chance at redemption. Those around the cut-line that might threaten early doors are PGA-champ Collin, Masters vets Bubba, Zach and Scotty.
