Friday at The Open
Apologies for a flare up on the site after day 1, where no one received a score update. We hope to have rectified this into Friday, but back to The Open!
The wind got up to start on Friday but died down eventually and ultimately Royal St George’s played relatively easy. There were still challenges everywhere and players had moments of frustration.
Hatton had an especially frustrating day and eventually broke down, snapping an iron and missing the cut by 1. The day had already claimed Zala who was forced to withdraw, not linked to his putting, but due an injured wrist early on Friday.
However, it was a splendid day all round otherwise. Lots of exciting birdies, players seeing a gap and being aggressive, just to keep pace with the leaders.
King Louis shot a 65, added to his 64 on Thursday to post the low round of the Open and take a 2 shot lead into the weekend.
The course provides plenty of birdie opportunities with a lack of wind so the weekend should be electric. The course will be set up with pins in corners, but players will have to go after these if they are to keep pace.
King Louis dominated throughout, rarely missing fairways or greens and through 36 holes, only has 1 bogey. He will claim he might have gone really low, such was his dominant tee to green game and his focus looks unbreakable.
Friday afternoon allowed a variety of players to stake their claim to being the chaser, so there will be a few come the weekend. Any host of top players like Collin, Jordan, DJ or Rahmbo will feel they are the anointed chaser. However, there are few others under the radar who feel good too.
Jordan will be sitting just 3 back and looks to have his irons and putter on fire!
Round of the Day
Thursday produced 64s and Friday matched this. 3 of the world’s best managed to post 64s on Friday and it looked like it could go even lower.
Both Collin and King Louis were lining up the 62 after they played 14, but both “struggled” home.
Collin, Grillo and Rahmbo did post 64s with all 3 making scores across the whole course. In the right momentum, both 9s offered scoring opportunities.
Shot of the Day
It’s hard to beat an ACE and so it proved. Both 6 and 16 were set up to get one and the fans were treated when Thomson stepped up to 16. WIth a decent nickname of Jigger, reminiscent of the Jigger Inn at St Andrews, many will cheer this one!
There were a few eagles out there too, but none could match the ACE.
The Leaders
The Chasers
The Movers
It's Moving Day up ahead and with the weather forecast like today - windier early then dying down, it plays into the hands of the leaders. Making a charge up the board might be tough, but players Rors, Xander and JT have no choice if they wish to contend.
Taking the weekend off
The MC list is headlined by the Lefty but followed by Reed, Hatton and Cantlay to miss the cut.
The Cutline fell at 1 over and hovered there all day.
Reminder of the Stats:
Bucket 1: Rahmbo 29%, Xander 22%, BK 17%, JT 7% and Hatton 7%. (3 are under par, 1 MC)
Bucket 2: King Louis 29%, Rors 16%, Jordan 12%, Fitzy 9% and Hovland 8%. (leader and 3 are under par)
Bucket 3: JRose 14%, Gracie 12%, Poults 11%, Lowry 10% and CBez 9%. (3 are under par)
All in all, not bad from the punters on their picks, a mixed bag but a fair degree of support spread between King Louis, Jordan and Collin.
Who do you fancy for your SUB PICKS?
There are a few leaders who are posted 5 or 6 back, teeing off late, who will present a challenge. Casey, BK and Rahmbo are just 3 of those and they are eager to keep their change going, with each posting good scores on Friday.

Farfield leads going into the weekend by 3 over St George’s GREATS, D-Rocks Jocks 1 and DegenParty.
It’s going to be a birdie fest all weekend and a few of the leaders have nailed in on Jordan and King Louis. Farfield is sitting pretty with 5 players inside the top 25 and will be hard to beat.
There are a ton of chasers, so this is far from over.

On a day when we nailed an ACE, it’s sad to see Hole in ones! sitting stone last, but so be it. Its only 1 back of CWD011 and PokeyAU3, so also far from over.
36 holes to go and so much to play for. The weather will mean we are in for a thrill - perhaps a match for the Duel in the Sun. Lets hope and see. Enjoy whatever comes our way.
