Friday at the US Open
Brookline showed its teeth early on during the 2nd round with heavy winds to start the day, but as the day progressed the wind died down, and scoring improved dramatically.
This was definitely a case of a better draw, with a 2 shot average separating the 2 draws. More notably is the volume of late finishers in the top 10.
It was a day of bogey avoidance, with a big number always around the corner and any score in the 60s was making a big charge up the leaderboard.
The morning wave were hoping for improved conditions, but instead had a battle on their hands. The world number 1 came good with a 67, tied by playing partners BK & Sam Burns, which also proved to be a serious score all day.
The afternoon saw much better scoring which was led by the eventual leaders Collin & Dahmen who has not received as much airtime for golfing prowess. Both were brilliant in their shotmaking with Collin’s coldish putter robbing him of a solo lead.
Collin has an incredible major record and is looking for his 3rd different major at such a young age (25) - which would match Tiger, Jack & Jordan. In the build he complained of losing his soft butter cut, but somehow found something else to have him leading another major, incidentally his first major 36 hole lead.
There is a stark reality as you get into the weekend, that your hopes of winning are drastically hurt. 25 of the past 26 US Open champions were T6 or better headed into the weekend and 5 of the last 9 champions had the lead/share of the lead after 36 holes.
The T6 stat means we only have 1 of 7 winning options available: The leaders plus Buckley, Rahmbo, Rory, Wise & Hossler.
Round of the Day
Just like Thursday, 66 and 4 under proved to be the zenith for the players. This was posted by Collin, matching Hadwin. There were a few chasing 67s out there, which would be very acceptable on Moving Day.
Collin’s round could have easily been something more, with a short missed eagle on 14 as he started to close out his round.
Shot of the Day
An ace by Cam Young on the tricky 6th hole was heroic especially considering how difficult it had been playing all day. He was outside the cutline at this point and strung a closing stretch together of birdie, ACE, birdie, birdie, par to MISS the cut by 1.
Performance of the Day
The Leaders
The Chasers
The Movers
It's Moving Day up ahead and with the wind abound - there will be a chance for players to post a number and hope the field comes back to them. The field is unlikely to run away and Brookline is likely to bite back.
The lowest score of the week is 66 so far. Is there a 65 out there? Collin was on track to shoot it, but the putter went cold down the stretch.
Players like Zala, Xander, JT and Hideki have been bubbling along and are in position to go out early and post. JT was on the wrong side of the draw so will be keen for some decent birdie weather! Another looking to make a move will be BK who put together a strong Friday morning.
Taking the weekend off:
The Cutline fell at +3, leaving a few notables on the outside. Most hurt would be Cam Young after his back 9 heroics.
LIV locals make up a chunk of the MCs like Phil, Sergio & KL, but a few others who were fancied headed into the US Open like Fleetwood, Viktor, Cambo, Berger, The Phenom & Lowry are also headed home.
Reminder of the Stats:
Top Bucket: Rory 33%, JT 29%, Cambo 9% & Burns 8% (2 are under par, 1 MC)
2nd Bucket: Zala 18%, Fitzy 15%, Xander 14% & Lowry 10% (3 are under par, 1 MC)
3rd Bucket: JRose 16%, Riley 14%, Mito 13% & Power 10% (1 is under par, 1 MC)
All in all, not terrible numbers for the punters picks.
Who do you fancy for your SUB PICKS?

Day 1’s leaders have been pretty much shifted over for a new batch of renegades. A little bit like the hot potato which was the US Open lead too, as it changed hands a few times.
You only LIV once sits 1 shot above the Boston-themed Boondock Saints. RLW 2 sits a further shot back. All 3 teams have rolled the wild card expertly, with 1 poor score per day.
Nipping at their heels is the emoji 4 leaf clover and WRPHILLIPS21 (2).
The weekend is upon us so strap in leaders. The chase is on.

The scoring got a little easier yesterday which probably meant a few blushes were spared with big numbers. Still lots of punters sitting in double digits over par!
Post a few of the substitutions, the scores are reflecting the penalties already incurred. Take the medicine so to speak.
Lobstah sits dead last, 1 shot adrift of We need a 3rd tour & LoopdiLoop. All of them have had a few of those surprise MCs.
be the right number today sits another shot ahead after another tough ball striking round.
It’s a long road to go and no one is safe on this course and with major champions in your team, we know they can flip the switch and turn it around.
