Day 2 at the 2025 Masters

Posted on April 12, 2025 alt_text

Friday at The Masters

At the conclusion of Day 2, JRose maintained his position atop the leaderboard, holding on to a degree after his opening stellar 65. His performance underscores his enduring competitiveness, even as he faces a field filled with younger talent.

Champing at his heels is BDC, who delivered an impressive 68 in the second round, to sit 1 back. His round included a great chip in from the greenside bunker on the 4th.

Tied for third at 6-under-par are Rory & Corey, who will both fancy it over the weekend.

Rounding out the chasers, all within 3 shots of the lead are Scottie, Lowry, The MadHatter & McCarty, who are tied for fifth at 5 under
In the end, we have 8 players with 3 shots of the lead, which will be great chase over the weekend.

37 of the last 38 Masters winners were inside the top 10 after 2 rounds. The last winner from outside the top 15 was Jack in ‘86 (“maybe? Yes, Sir”)! Over history, 92% of all winners were within 5 shots of the lead.

So that data takes us to the one under and a total of 11 golfers, with plenty of talent in that group.

Round of the Day
Best of the day belonged to Rory posting a bogey free 66, including a pine-straw eagle on 13.

This vaulted into the 2nd last pairing and within striking distance.

Shot of the Day
Lots of memorable moments and probably many more missed. Akshay has got superb hands and feel around the greens including this CHIP IN on on the 14th.

Performance of the Day
Little known lefty, Matt McCarty started the day with a double and was quickly staring downa missed cut before he rallied with birdies on the closing 16 holes to vault himself into contention early on Friday, rarified air for a rookie.

The Movers
It's Moving Day up ahead and the conditions are expected to be good for scoring, with little wind and warm temperatures. If anything, the morning is always easier with softer conditions existing for a few hours to start the day.

Collin, X, Tommy & Hideki could be candidates for another low round on Saturday after finding some form on Friday.

Taking the weekend off
The Cutline fell at 2 over in the end, after being at 1 over on Thursday. Several players came in on the number, with a long list of 2 overs including former champs Jordan, Charl, Willett, ZachJ & Rahmbo.

Some of the notables are taking the weekend off are Serg, BK & DJ amongst others like former champs Freddie & Langer, who is playing his last Masters event.

Both Freddie & Langer fought hard down the stretch with putts on 18 to make the cut, but fell just short from a fairytale finish.

majorpunter Bottomboard:

The bottomboard has 2 players over, scoring has been good.

CD & Bradthig3 are sitting at the bottom, who were left behind when the birdies started to flow.

36 holes to go, Augusta will be an exciting place over the weekend for what remains, definitely more doubles than eagles but exciting nonetheless.
