Final Day Sunday at The 2024 US Open

Posted on June 17, 2024 alt_text

Sunday was a hot, frenzied affair. There were bogeys, birdies and groans galore - a firm major that tested every facet of the players games.

There was plenty of jostling at the top of the leaderboard and it needed a superb up-and-down on 18 for The Bulk to bring it home.

USOpen24 Day4 1
The 18th was drama laden with Rory missing a short putt for par, which would have extended the major into a playoff after missing a short putt on 16 too. Rory will be left wondering how can he can ever get it done after sitting on a 2 shot lead and 8 under through 14 holes.

USOpen24 Day4 2
The Bulk was spraying it off the tee all day, with his 1st birdie of the day coming at the 10th hole, but he made a few sensational par saves including a par on 18 which ultimately was the difference after 72 holes of attritional play.

USOpen24 Day4 3Rory got the engine going early with a birdie on the 1st and his putter was hot through 14 holes till the wheel came off. He missed a 3 foot putt on 16 and 18, his first short misses all year!

USOpen24 Day4 4
A superb win for The Bulk, landing a 2nd major and US Open, which leaves him in some pretty special territory of US Open wins (2) before his 30s, with those like Jack, Tiger, Ernie & BK.

USOpen24 Day4 5Round of the Day
There were 3 rounds of 67, with all 3 locking top 10s as a result. The Phenom included a birdie on 18 and an eagle on the 5th.

USOpen24 Day4 6
Shot of the Day
A Par to win from the sand? 55 yard sand save? Thats hard to beat! The Bulk take a bow for this SHOT!

USOpen24 Day4 7
Performance of the Day
Mr Burns carried on his good play, some his forgetful 1st round. He also signed for a 67 for a back door T9.

Final Day Sunday was filled with excitement, a few birdies and a sprinkling of eagles, but many bogeys and worse!

Fitzmagic3 charged at the end and snuck into a 2 shot victory, aided by the closing birdie by The Phenom.

DegenParty had led for long stretches, but ultimately came up just short.

It was a tough weekend at Pinehurst, tough to get it home, but ultimately a worthy winner came to the fore.

1 single big number pegged up the bottomboard with Jimmy’s Cnuts taking the honours for the bottom and holding that wooden spoon for a few days.

We are looking forward to the next major, The Open Championship at Troon in July.

Harmie will be defending and the last major winner at famed Royal Troon was Stenner after a classic duel with Lefty in 2016.
