Final Day Sunday at The Masters
Sunday was a superbly warm and exciting atmosphere, coupled with an ultimately emotional closure, the likes of which we have not seen for many years.
Yesterday Rory collapsed onto the 18th green after a playoff at Augusta National, finally a Masters champion.
Try not to feel anything while watching that. McIlroy ended an 11-year major drought and captured the career grand slam. He has had so many opportunities since 2014, plus countless top 3s, top 10s and near-misses.
Rory shows everyone that his emotions are incredibly vulnerable and relatable. These guys care a lot.
Rory had plenty of opportunities to put this away across the back nine and just couldn’t do it, almost willingly running away with it, followed by another birdie. He had a 5 shot lead after his birdie on the 10th.
Rory joins the most elite list in golf, the career slam: Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player & Tiger Woods in 2001. Its been a long wait since then and long since 2014.
The course played tough nonetheless. Pins were traditional, though an ode to Jack with the top tier pin on 16. It was firm & fast, but playable for electric shot making.
Charges came from everywhere, suddenly a multitude of players were in line for a win. The Feed holed out on 17, amongst all the choas. ABerg looked like a likely winner too, before faltering as we the moment got bigger.
Rory provided a few big stats by week’s close. Coming back to win from 7 shots back after round 1 is a massive stretch for a winner. Then winning with 4 doubles over the week is a first too.
Overall, 12 scores in the 60s on Sunday showed that there was a score to be had and JRose was close to a second and would-be winning 65.
Round of the Day
A sensational low round of the day came from JRose & Hideki.
Hideki got it to 7 under at 1 point, but went out very early compared to JRose, who took on the gauntlet, going for the Green Jacket.
Others wilted, but JRose stuck in there with birdies on 15, 16 & 18. Each one as good as the next. Thats now his 5th runner-up spot in majors.
Shot of the Day
There have been so many on what was a roller-coaster for Rory.
The effort from behind the trees on 15, swung around the tall pines, that just carried on the green, with a wicked spin to the left and towards the pin, was up there with the best Masters shot of all time!
This was followed by another one in the playoff. It was only a flick wedge on 18 from Rory after a monster drive, but the timing was crucial after his previous effort in regulation.
Performance of the Day
Rory provided every highlight out there despite him posting 73. A mix of birdies, bogeys, doubles and herculean shots for every patron to enjoy.
A simple 72, including sand-save on 18 would have done, but a playoff birdie on top of the first 18, was just sensational.
JRose contributed willingly to the whole day, a closing stretch of 8 holes that was either birdies or bogeys including a birdie on 18 to post the number.
Even the playoff 18 was superbly played by both of them. Sadly, someone has to lose.
The Leaders
The top 12s managed to lock their tickets into next year’s Masters which for Max & Harris is gold, whilst the others already have exemptions via various categories or would be more likely to get so later in the year.

Final Day Sunday was filled with drama.
There were some good scores for the punters and plenty of scores under par on the LEADERBOARD.
Conquering The Green ultimately pulled away late on Sunday, despite Rory’s late bogey to beat Fitzmagic2, who was let down late by Scottie & Corey down the stretch.
Wattson 2 & Lefties closed out T3, but a margin behind the top dogs..
It was an exciting weekend at Augusta, a gruelling golf-feast, and ultimately a worthy winner came to the fore.

CD & Bradthig3 fought it out at the bottom for the wooden spoon all weekend and thats where they stayed.
We are looking forward to the next major, the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow where Jordan will have another chance to finally nail the Grand Slam. He had a better showing at Augusta, though still seems miles away from his former self.
X will be defending and the last major winner at Quail Hollow was JT in 2017, which seems a lifetime ago. But that man Rory also has a tremendous PGA record at Quail too.
