Final Day Sunday at The US Open
Sunday was absolute chaos from start to finish. No one could have predicted how this one rolled out, with so many golfers left to rue what could have been. Except one. Lesser-known JJ Spaun rose to the top to claim his 1st major win and his first top 20 finish in a major.
Spaun did it with aplomb too, finishing with some of the best drives and approaches that anyone could wish, grabbing whatever he thought was is and going into golfing history! After an opening 40! How could he dare believe and yet he did, posting 1 under par for the championship.
For Burns & Scotty this will hurt deep, their hopes getting dashed with a string of significant errors that ultimately cost them top 5, after leading and battling for what seemed the whole day.
There were plenty of other might-have-been moments on a soaked Oakmont and we will continue to remember them.
The Burns lack of drop in standing water, which led to a string of doubles
The Hatton meltdown on 17, chasing a birdie, walking off with a 5, plus the anguish of missed chance the whole before
Scotty’s missed ball striking as the it rained harder and harder, his putts seemingly unable to drop
The Hov just not able to match his playing partners moves despite being in it all of the back 9
Round of the Day
Rory & Rahmbo closed with 67s to round off decent weeks in the end, going out earlier than the leaders and missing most of the weather challenges that surfaced later. However, both of them will also rue countless errors, that left them without any say in this major at Oakmont.
Shot of the Day
Spaun produced the championship defining moments late on Sunday, pick any of the drives on 17 or 18, both under the most pressure or the monster putt, longest of all week, on 18.
Performance of the Day
Bobby Mac hung in tough all day, after a poor start and briefly felt like he had one on the trophy with a clean back 9.
In all reality, he needed that birdie on 18, which ultimately left Spaun with so much less stress.
Super gracious in defeat, which is great to see. Last time he was 2nd, at his Scottish Open, he bounced back with a W at the next one. So watch this man at Portrush!
The Leaders
The top 10s managed to lock their tickets into next year’s US Open which for Ortiz, Griffin & Other Cam is gold, whilst the others already have exemptions via various categories or would be more likely to get so later in the year.
What a major, which I am sure everyone is exhausted after, players, caddies, ground staff and fans alike!

Final Day Sunday was filled with drama.
There were some good scores for the punters and plenty of scores under par on the LEADERBOARD.
Ella and Bennie took it home with a 2 shot win over Golf Cartel in an exciting finish down to the last, even though neither picked JJ and Ella and Bennie had an MC to carry!
Harmless777 closed out the top 3 before a big tie at 4th Ella’s Fellas & Lara. The leaderboard clearly dominated by the Adams Family!
It was an exciting and hard weekend at Oakmont and ultimately a worthy winner came to the fore.

92 | RLW-3 | Luke West | +83 |
93 | Jakes the Snakes | Clyde Botha | +94 |
Lots of big numbers littered the bottomboard. Plenty of MCs ain’t going to help anyone.
Jakes the Snakes stuck to the bottom, 94 over par, that was special, taking the wooden spoon at a canter.
We are looking forward to the next major, The Open at Royal Portrush - it should be a typically challenging and windswept championship.
X will be defending and the last major winner at Royal Portrush was Lowry in 2019, for his 1st major, which seems a lifetime ago.
