Final Day Sunday at 2021 Open Championship
Your Champion Golfer of the Year, Collin Morikawa.
(Apologies for our errors on the scores related to individual emails - we are working on it.)
With no rain since Wednesday and little wind, Royal St George’s only had wind and strategic pin placements to defend itself and on the whole, managed to survive.
The lowest round of the day was 65 and although most of the leaders shot under par, there were no gimmes out there.
Pins were placed near crests, tucked into corners, a firm course and 2 par 3s playing over 200m. It delivered brilliantly for a thrilling Championship and a worthy Champion.
With no wind about on Sunday, players carried on their Moving Day moves to try close the gap on the leaders. The leaders responded poorly, with King Louis and Jordan making a few bogeys under the pressure.
Jordan eventually woke up with eagle on 7 and then proceeded to play the next 7 holes in 5 under. At the same time Collin made birdie on 7, 8 and 9, with both players creating daylight between themselves and King Louis.
Collin made a string of clutch saves down the stretch, before landing a lone birdie on 14, giving a solid cushion for the victory. He fired a bogey free 66 and looked unfazed throughout Sunday.
There was a late charge by Rahmbo but ultimately it was a little too late as Collin was crowned the Champion Golfer of the Year.
Round of the Day
With the last day, there is bound to be some early moves from players and again some of the early starters delivered with 65s - Xander, The Bulk and Rickie all posted those scores early on.
BK was playing later and relatively in the mix, with his 65 including numerous missed opportunities to go much deeper.
Collin though was head and shoulders above the rest.
Here's a fun Fact: Bogey-free final rounds of 66 or lower in major championship wins since 2000, only 3 people. They are: 2012 PGA Rors, 2020 PGA Collin, 2021 Open Collin.
Shot of the Day
There were a few moments that grabbed the headlines: Rahmbo and Jordan eagles on 7 and King Louis near Ace on 11.
Nothing was able to change the destiny of the Championship, with Collin’s continued steadiness winning the day.

Final Day Sunday got into chaos and turmoil relatively early on the front 9, but as the back 9 settled in, it became a 3 short horse race between Farfield, Creamy Goodness and St George’s GREATS.
In the end it went down to the wire, Farfield knew he was safe when Collin lagged his putt down on 18. It went to the very end, with his team being let down by 2 players over par, which was rare for the leaders.

69 | CWD011 | Charlie Dodson | +10 |
The bottomboard grew a long tail by the end, with CWD011 ending a distant last, 9 shots behind Augusta Green Jackets who seemed a bit lost down at St George’s.
They were the only 2 teams over par, in what was a low scoring major across the board. Overall, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose and now there is lots of time to recoil and refind your swing and groove.
We are looking forward to the next major, but it seems an age away. The Masters at Augusta and once again Rory’s chance to finally nail the Grand Slam.
