Moving Day at The Masters
A beautiful day and warm weather greeted the players for Moving Day, but Augusta National was not in a giving mood.
The course played tough all day, with few red numbers regardless of your early or late tee time. Only 12 scores under par and only 2 scores in the 60s. At 1 point there were 4 tied at 6 under and amazingly Scottie was not 1 of them.
The leaders would eventually both post under par scores, though Scottie was really struggling until he arrived at 13 and walked off with an eagle, then rallied with 2 more birdies and the clubhouse lead, the destination that everyone expected, but via a route no one had planned.
Collin had a hot start which always helps but then could not break the 6 under barrier, eventually settling for 10 closing pars, including a 3 putt par on 13. A round that promised so much more yet was only 1 of 2 rounds in the 60s all day!
Big question on Sunday for Collin, will the putter hold? Remember he swapped putters on Friday and then had first 3-putt of the week yesterday on 13.
Max was not to be out done, with pure striking so pure all day. He had so many chances, but could not record a single birdie all day. He burnt edges everywhere, but a crucial sand save on 18 might give him the burst for Final Day Sunday.
The chasers came and went with debutant flair shining bright. ÅBerg went out in 33 which included short missed birdie opportunities! He then tied the lead at 13, before leaking oil under major pressure, but remains a very real threat come Sunday. This kid is ice cool in the heat of battle.
Hogie playing with Scottie made a birdie 3 on 10 when Scottie made a 6, which vaulted him into the lead at 7 under briefly, before a calamitous finish left him on 2 under and 5 shots back.
Further down the leaderboard, a low number got you charging up a packed leaderboard. X had a bogey free 70 that leaves him 5 back. He will need that hot start tomorrow to get into the Green Jacket, but based on history the challenge will be great.
Only twice in the last 44 years, has the Masters winner more than 4 shots back. Since 2000, 96% of ALL major champions have been within 4 shots headed into the final round. At Augusta, the last 27 winners have all been within the magical 4 shots mark. From the 33 Masters, 28 were within the last group.
The chasers are going to need a superhuman effort.
There are some brilliant potentials heading into Final Day Sunday:
Scottie: world no 1, rubber stamps his own creds with a 2nd green jacket
Collin: a 3rd major win and puts him in line to complete the Grand Slam at the US Open
ÅBerg & Max: first major win
Round of the Day
By the close of Saturday, Moving Day, players had gone backwards more than forwards.
Kirk only just made the cut at 5 over, but his 68 took him to the top 20. It was an early post as expected, but also included a closing birdie 3 chip-in.
Shot of the Day
We have not seen many hole-outs this week or at least none from decent distance, so Lowry knocking one in on 14 for eagle was a shock and a cracker. Its the first eagle on 14 since 2016.
Last hole of the day, The Bulk stepped up to stuff one too, but “only” for birdie.
Performance of the Day
Collin shot a 69 for only the 2nd score in the 60s all day. He had it going on the front 9 and could have been so much better, but the challenge around the greens and pins held firm. The charge vaulted him right up the leaderboard and into the final pairing for the Final round.
Overall what a Saturday it was! Many thrills and challenges, but Final Day Sunday awaits.

The leaderboard bounced around on Moving Day became splintered and suddenly a 1 horse race from a deep charge. Hardly anyone from Friday remains!
Smitty from Ohio came from nowhere with his 2 leaders, Collin & Kirk leading the charge. To have both of the scores in 60s, thats superb picking!
Chasing hard is Mulligators, FJB & Lilys Boyz who all enjoyed good days on Saturday.
Pressure told on Moving Day and cleared affected some of the early leaders, Sunday will be much the same. A melting pot of stress. We can’t wait!
