What a gem of a day for Links golf! This tournament never ceases to amaze. The weather has been all over the show for The Open, again re-affirming its spot as the premier major of the year.
Royal Troon showed some real teeth with a mix of rain and wind, combined with its prevailing firmness proving a very difficult challenge.
In relative terms, plenty of low numbers came on the front 9 before the bite back kicked in as the rain started to fall. The back 9 was penal - no one coming home without taking punches.
Big Shane started the day, like he left off on Friday with big smiles and a few birdies too. Then he arrived at the Postage Stamp and it all went south quickly.
Its hard to keep up with Dan Brown, he keeps surprising everyone, even more so with his antics on course. Its hard to see how he is in contention in a major.
The leaderboard changed so many times, lots of times with 3 tied at 5 under at some point, and yet it ended with only 1 sitting at 4 under at plenty others at 3 under.
Where is this going? So many options competing for the final major of the year!
It should be an exciting duel for the Claret Jug on Sunday.
Heading into the final round, Rose holds the highest number of top 10s since 2014, without a win, with 13. He is due!
There are some brilliant potentials heading into Final Day Sunday:
Billy Ho: seeking a 1st major, having been around the block for a long time, often being in the wilderness
Thriston: seeking a 1st major, having never competed anywhere before, despite winning on the Euro Tour before
Mr Burns: seeking a 1st major, having never competed anywhere before, despite being a Ryder Cup player
Henley: seeking a 1st major, having never competed anywhere before, despite winning on the PGA Tour before
Others: seeking either 2nd or 3rd majors, proven winners, competed many times before
Round of the Day
Best of the day was a 65 from early starters Mr Burns & Thirstie who have catapulted themselves into the final 2 pairings.
Impossible to split these 2, though Thirstie did get it to 7 under for the day around the turn.
Can either of them vault into the lead on Sunday, with another good one?
Shot of the Day
Moving Day was a tough day, super tough, but there were 2 epic moments.
First, an ACE by Si Woo and then an insane, near ace from Scottie late in the day.
Performance of the Day
The weather poured in literally. It was extremely tough and there was some great scoring by players like Billy Ho & X took it on at its toughest! It was supreme golf, separating the men from the boys.

There were some really bad scores for the punters and only a few scores under par on the majorpunter LEADERBOARD.
Overnight leader Tomoose & Friends held firm and has been a good front runner so far, opening a big lead over the rest of the field.
The latest challenger is Yankee team, but DegenParty3 is still in it after a tough day.
Sunday will be another day on a less wet course, perhaps some less wind, so perhaps red numbers await! Either way, we can’t wait!
majorpunter Bottomboard:
Rank | Team | Punter | Total |
---|---|---|---|
73 | Farfield | Matthew Verbaan | +45 |
T74 | Finnornimus | David Finnorn | +47 |
T74 | Bradthig3 | Bradley Thigpen | +47 |
T74 | Robdog 6 | Robbie East | +47 |
T77 | PokeyAU1 | Preston Barnes | +48 |
T77 | What Postage Stamp? | Adi Erasmus | +48 |

80 | Creamy Goodness | Justin Hodgson | +53 |
81 | Little General | Graeme East | +56 |
82 | Bradthig2 | Bradley Thigpen | +62 |
As expected the bottomboard keeps looking worse with Bradthig2 building a solid lead in the race for the wooden spoon. Can’t see that changing.
Yours truly, Little General sits 2nd from bottom, though a mix of ups and downs, just shows how fine the line can be.
