Moving Day at The 2024 PGA Champs

Posted on May 19, 2024 alt_text

Valhalla was primed for another low scoring day with little protection or penalty for falling offline.

Plenty of low numbers resulted and a packed leaderboard heads into Final Day Sunday headlined by X who has led all week and joined by Collin who has rallied again in a major. It should be an exciting duel for the Wanamaker.

Moving Day did present some challenges despite the low scoring average of 69.5 with players like BK & Scottie who both had over par rounds surprisingly when they were poised to join the top dogs.

X had a measured approach to his day until he was rocked by a double bogey late on after looking perfectly positioned again in a fairway. That shook him but he got back on the bike to close with 2 birdies and a 68.

Collin went 1 shot better for a 67 and joined the shared lead overnight although he did lead alone at 1 point after that double bogey incident.

There are a host of chasers and its still very open. As we saw, there is a low number there and that might lead to a charging JT fueled by the local support, going low and posting a number which you can’t catch. There are 15 players within 5 shots of the lead, so expect some action when play gets underway.

The chasers are going to need a superhuman effort which will be great entertainment.

There are some brilliant potentials heading into Final Day Sunday:
X: seeking a 1st major, been the 2nd best player this year based on stats, but no W yet in 2024
Collin: a 3rd major win, a 2nd PGA and he is still in his 20s
Sahith: coming of age, first major win

Round of the Day
Best of the day was a major-tying 62 from big man Lowry who missed a 10 footer on the last to set a new record. His run vaulted him into the mix for Sunday, but can he back it up?

9 birdies and no bogeys will be a nice repeat on Sunday!

Shot of the Day
There were plenty of great scores, eagles, birdies and the like. The Bulk got himself into the mix on Moving Day with his sublime eagle chip in on 18 - great shot, but even better timing!

Performance of the Day
Scottie is the world’s best golfer easily, but was beaten on Saturday by Braden Shattuck who is the Director of Instruction at Rolling Green GC by 5 shots! What an achievement.

This vaulted him up the leaderboard, though not yet at Blockie level on form or fame yet.

Overall what a Saturday it was! Many thrills and challenges, but Final Day Sunday awaits.

The leaderboard bounced around on Moving Day then became splintered and suddenly a 1 horse race from a deep charge.

MZeezy leads by 6 with yesterday’s charge fueled by Jordan’s resurgence.

9 other punters are sitting 6 shots back, so expect it be a bun fight to get into the prizes.

Sunday will be a scoring frenzy just like Saturday. We can’t wait!

PokeyAU2 sits a a whopping 20 shots off Henri’s Heroes so the bottom looks pretty sewn up.
