Pinehurst again showed some real teeth with a mix of firmness, pin placements and wind proving a very difficult challenge.
Plenty of low numbers came on the front 9 before the bite back kicked in. Nearly everyone returned shots coming home except for The Bulk and he leads by 3 as a result.
The Bulk would have been further ahead but for a chunky chip on 16 that led to a messy double. He was still able to make a sensational birdie on 17 and post 67, which was near round of the day. That also was his 3rd round in the 60s, a US Open record!
Chasing the lead are 3 players at 4 under in Rory, Pavon & Cant(p)lay who will need a mini collapse to compete, but each of them pushed the envelope this week and are capable.
It should be an exciting duel for the US Open on Sunday.
There are some brilliant potentials heading into Final Day Sunday:
The Bulk: seeking a 2nd US Open, matching a short elite list of 2 US Open’s in their 20s!
Pavon: 1st major win, 1st win for France
Rory: 5th major, 10 years since his last win
Cant(p)lay: delivering on his talent for a first major win
Round of the Day
Best of the day was a 66 from an early starter in Collin who came good for his backers. Incredibly he had a bogey free round, including 3 birdies on the back 9. His run vaulted him into the mix for Sunday, but can he back it up?
Shot of the Day
Moving Day was a tough day, though it did feature a few cracking, risky shots. Players had to steer clear of danger.
The Bulk got into trouble on 13 and just went straight at it for another birdie with this SHOT!
Performance of the Day
The Bulk became the first player in a US Open to post 3 opening rounds in the 60s. Moving Day’s 67 was powerful and a statement of clear intent as he seeks to land a 2nd major championship.

A few other punters are sitting 3 or 4 shots back so its a real bun fight to get into the prizes.
Sunday will be another day on a firmer course so expect big numbers! We can’t wait!
